UNESCO honors Martinique for BIODIVERSITY

One of 35 top biodiversity hotspots in the world!

The French Caribbean Island of Martinique has been, on September 15, 2021, inducted into UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Program.

As one of the world’s 35 biodiversity hotspots, Martinique harbors many endemic species living in rare and endangered habitats.

“We are very proud of the Martinique Biosphere Reserve Association and of our people for achieving this success along with the December 2020 UNESCO recognition of Martinique’s traditional Yole Sailboat race as Intangible Cultural Heritage” said Bénédicte di GERONIMO, Martinique Tourism Commissioner
